Tourism Bureau Honors CLC Students

Tourism Bureau Honors Local College Students at Award Luncheon

Visit Brainerd, the tourism bureau for Brainerd and Baxter Minnesota recently honored students from the Central Lakes College Marketing Principles class at an award luncheon held at the Arrowwood Lodge of Brainerd Lakes. The awards were for marketing plans that the students put together for marketing Brainerd, Baxter, and the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Several months ago the idea was born to challenge students of the Marketing Principles class at Central Lakes College in Brainerd to research Visit Brainerd, the tourism bureau for Brainerd and Baxter, Minnesota and prepare a marketing plan for the organization using the information that they had gathered.

On December 11th the research was completed, pooled together, and laid out into four marketing plans. Each team of students then presented their plans to a group of local business people at the Visit Brainerd office. Once the scores were tallied all participating students were honored and the top three teams were presented certificates at a luncheon held at Arrowwood Lodge.

CLC Veteran Assistance Declining with Government Cuts

About 80 Central Lakes College student veterans may have to find other ways to pay for classes after two tuition assistance programs are reduced or eliminated because of government funding cutbacks.

The first, a program called the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP), disappears March 31, 2014. It serves veterans who are unemployed and want to get back into the workforce, but have used all other veteran benefits.
